International Student to Canadian Citizen - My Canada Timeline /

✅Here is my entire timeline from 2016 to present.

Becoming a Canadian citizen as an international student typically involves a multistep process. Here are the general steps you may need to follow:

Study in Canada:
As an international student, you first need to obtain a study permit to study in Canada. Make sure to apply to a designated learning institution (DLI) and meet the admission requirements.

Meet residency requirements:
To become a Canadian citizen, you must meet specific residency requirements. You need to have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for a certain number of years out of the last five years before applying for citizenship. Time spent in Canada as an international student may not count towards these residency requirements.

Become a permanent resident:
Most international students apply for Canadian permanent residency through the Express Entry system, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), or other immigration pathways. Once you become a permanent resident, your time in Canada starts counting towards the residency requirements for citizenship.

Reside in Canada:
To become a citizen, you must physically reside in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) out of the last 5 years before applying.

File your taxes:
You should have filed your taxes for at least 3 years within the 5year period, demonstrating your financial obligations as a responsible resident.

Pass a language and knowledge test:
You will need to prove your proficiency in English or French by taking a language test. You'll also have to take a citizenship knowledge test on Canadian history, values, symbols, institutions, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

Apply for Canadian citizenship:
Once you meet the residency requirements and fulfill other eligibility criteria, you can apply for Canadian citizenship. You'll need to complete the appropriate application forms and provide all required documents and fees.

Attend a citizenship interview:
If your application is accepted, you may be called for an interview with a citizenship official to verify your eligibility and assess your language and knowledge.

Attend the citizenship ceremony:
If your application is approved, you will receive an invitation to attend a citizenship ceremony. During the ceremony, you'll take the Oath of Citizenship, which officially grants you Canadian citizenship.

Please note that immigration and citizenship laws and procedures can change over time, so it's important to consult the official website of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or seek guidance from a qualified immigration consultant or lawyer for the most uptodate information and personalized advice on your specific situation.
