IR Infrared Spectroscopy Practice Problems - Real Spectra

Follow
Chemistry Steps

In this video will do practice problems determining the correct compound based on the Infrared (IR) spectroscopy data. IR spectra are always crowded with peaks and analyzing them seems like a tedious task at times. But don’t worry. In this video, we will be solving IR spectra stepbystep focusing on the most important regions and the peaks that you need to pay attention. Keep in mind that IR spectroscopy is not a comprehensive spectroscopy used to determine the entire structure of a molecule. It is used mainly to identify the functional groups in organic chemistry and if you have already learned those, you will need to memorize a little chart of IR spectroscopy absorption frequencies to solve IR problems. There are really three important steps to follow when solving an IR problem: 1) You need to determine the types of hybridizations for the carbons, 2) check for an OH or an NH peak, and 3) identify the presence of the very important peak of the carbonyl bond at 1700 cm1.
