Iran is set to hold a runoff presidential election on July 5 after the June 28 vote failed to elect a new president. Iran's sole reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian will face the ultraconservative Saeed Jalili in a runoff. According to the Iranian elections authority, Pezeshkian secured 42.4 per cent of the votes while Jalili came second with 38.6 per cent votes. The officials said, "None of the candidates gained an absolute majority of the votes." The first round of the election was marred by historically low turnout.
