IRS Form 8802 - Application for U.S. Tax Residency Certificate

Follow
Jason D. Knott

The IRS Form 8802 is filed by individuals and companies to verify their U.S. tax residency.

If a company or individual operates a business outside of the U.S., they may be liable for certain types of taxes and VAT, unless they can prove to the foreign tax authority that they are a U.S. tax resident.

The applicant can file Form 8802 with the IRS and receive confirmation via Form 6166, which confirms their U.S. tax residency.
