Based on Swami Dayananda's personal struggle to discover a crucial but often overlooked principle: Vedanta is a pramana, an instrument of knowledge that removes the "veil" of ignorance covering atma, the true Self.
Dhyana, or meditation is a necessary but inadequate practice for gaining moksha, liberation. The main obstacle to enlightenment is ajnana, ignorance of one's true nature as saccidananda atma, the true self, limitless existence (sat) and awareness or consciousness (chit) that is eternally full (ananda). Since the problem is ignorance, the ultimate solution is knowledge, atma jnana, selfknowledge. Dhyana or meditation plays a crucial role in preparing one for that knowledge, for gaining adhikaritva.
