Is Prereq or Overall GPA More Important for Physical Therapy School?

Which more important: Prerequisite GPA or Overall GPA for Physical Therapy school?

The prerequisite GPA is weighed heavier during the application process for DPT school. Most schools require a "minimum" GPA in order to advance the application (usually a minimum of a 3.0 for both overall and prerequisite GPA).

Because Doctor of Physical Therapy school is such an academically challenging program (on top of all the skills and handling we have to learn), the school you are applying to wants to know if you are even academically able to keep up with the rigor of academic work. Yes, you might have the personality and the experience to be a great physical therapist, but you also need the knowledge. GPA tests that knowledge.

Prereq GPA is important because it is a measure to show admissions that you are "capable" of handling doctoral academics, which obviously is rigorous.
