Is the GT S-Series Worth $3200?

Just over 500 miles later, I'm reflecting on my decision to buy the $3,200 Onewheel GT SSeries. This is the new Onewheel board by Future Motion. $3,200 plus tax, plus accessories is a lot of money. And I already had a board that I was plenty happy with, the original Onewheel GT. Now that I've owned both for a while, I have more perspective about their differences. And to be honest, owning a more powerful board makes me more aware of the Onewheel GT's weaknesses and deficiencies. It's hard to ride the GT SSeries regularly, then go back to riding the Onewheel GT. They are in a different class of performance.

Here's the thing – the Onewheel GT is plenty of board. It's a good all around performer and is top of the class for range. However, it's probably best for you to do the math on how much range you need if you're struggling to decide between the two boards. Since the GT SSeries has enough range for 99.9% of my rides, I get to enjoy a lighter board, in terms of weight, that gets me everywhere I want to go, and does so faster. And the torque/speed advantage is useful for safety and for passing others without running into pushback.

If $3,200 isn't within your budget, don't buy this wheel. Don't demo it. Don't try your friend's board. There is a bit of hedonic adaptation at play with all of these new products. The new thing becomes your new baseline. And there will always be another new thing on the horizon to replace your current thing. Be grateful for what you have, live within its limitations. Put your money into other things that will move the needle in your favor so that you can buy more nice things in the future.

Side note: I recorded this video using the DJI Mic 2, connected to my Insta360 X3 with Bluetooth. The audio was a struggle to work with in post. There was a lot of noise and wireless interference. I don't recommend using the DJI Mic 2 with the transmitteronly. When connecting with Bluetooth, you can't record internally and without a receiver, you can't change any of the settings.

This video was made with love. Ride safely out there. I appreciate your viewership.
