Is this hike REALLY that BORING? 🤷‍♂️ The most northern 4000 footer in NH | Mount Cabot

We’re back to hiking!

Peak 3 of 48 on our NH 4000 footer journey is Mt. Cabot, the most northern of the NH 4000ers.

To be completely honest, we walked away from Cabot with overall mixed feelings about the hike. Some people seem to love it, as it is quite remote (away from the more densely traversed trails in the Whites), it isn’t overwhelmingly steep at any point, and if you add a couple of additional peaks (The Bulge and The Horn), it can apparently be quite beautiful.

However, it’s a peak that is probably disliked as much as it is liked. For a hike that most people have to go super out of their way to get to, going from York Pond Trail, to the Bunnell Notch Trail, to Kilkenny Ridge Trail, takes 4.8 miles (one way), all to get to one of the least spectacular summits we’ll probably find on the NH 48 list. As you can see in the video as well, we hiked on an extremely humid, sunny day, one where we couldn’t even get a decent breeze to help battle the black flies towards the top. This, of course, greatly impacted our experience on Cabot.

Still a notch above Tecumseh, though

Let us know if you’ve hiked Cabot, and what your thoughts about it are in the comments! We’d love to give this one another go at a different time, maybe in the winter?
