Exosome therapy, heralded as a significant advancement in biotechnology for rejuvenating skin, promoting hair growth, and addressing various diseases and injuries, has achieved widespread acclaim, particularly in South Korea, and is now gaining popularity in the United States and Europe. The applications of exosomes continue to expand, with a surge in research exploring their distinctive role as intercellular messengers.


Extrosomes, characterized as extracellular vesicles measuring 30–150nm and often 1/1,000th the size of a typical cell, are swiftly released by diverse cell types throughout the body. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are recognized for having the highest exosome levels. Recent research published in Stem Cell Research & Therapy (April 2023) indicates that compared to MSCs, exosomes derived from MSCs exhibit reduced immunogenicity, convenient storage, and notably potent biological activity.


Exosomes primarily function as carriers of vital cellular communication information from one cell to another, despite not being live cells themselves. They play a crucial role in transporting and disseminating proteins, lipids, messenger RNA (mRNA), microRNA (miRNA), and DNA. Once released into the extracellular space, exosomes can be absorbed by recipient cells, influencing their functions.
