Veselka is the most famous Ukrainian restaurant in NYC. One of the last Ukrainian restaurants left in the East Village, it was founded in 1954 and received objective accolades for its food in the 70s. Today, Veselka in NYC is still standing, even as all the old Slavic restaurants in the East Village have moved away. Veselka was famous for being open 24/7, but today it is also famous as a gathering place to show support for Ukraine during the Russian Ukraine War. Lines at this restaurant can sometimes go around the corner and around the block, as hundreds seek to show their support to a famous Ukrainian owned business.
