Isometric Exercises - The What and The Why | Tim Keeley | Physio REHAB

It’s a basic strengthening exercise that’s pretty boring and us Physios give it a lot for post injury and post surgical patients.

But they are GOLD in the initial rehab phase. Isometric means the muscle is contracting and you are getting tone, but the JOINT is not moving. This gives the recovering muscle or tendon some exercises and load without mechanical leverage forces to upset it. It’s not just for shoulders you can do for the knee, lower back, neck and all sorts of body parts.

Essential building blockbuster of an exercise and it also works as pain relief. Trust me this works. Completing your isometrics gives you a licence to then do the harder strengthening work with bands and weights when time and your physio allows!

Don’t forget them, get them done and you’ll thank yourself.
