Runway28 Aviation Videos

The Israel Defense Force was using a total of 362 F16s. The models consist from the early F16A/Bs versions to the latest F16I Sufa version. All Israeli F16s are equipped with custom Israeli electronics for several tasks. Most of the Israeli F16s have been used extensively in combat in the past. The aircraft were used in the bombing of the Iraq's nuclear reactor in Osirak. In 1992, almost all Israel Air Force F16A/B's received an upgrade from Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI). The wings were structurally reinforced, and Elbit's advanced flight and mission management system was installed in the aircraft. The F16C/D's were named locally “Barak”. These aircraft received Israeli ECM systems which were manufactured by Elisra and flight management computers which were made by Elbit. In 2011, the Israeli Air force announced an upgrade program of its aging F16C/D (blocks 30 and 40) fleet, to make it valuable in 2020 and even later. The upgrade included installation of newer avionics and new wiring which made these block 30/40 airframes more compatible with the IAFs F16I Sufa model. These F16s are upgraded block 52+ F16D models. The upgrade program was completed in 2014. During Blue Wings 2020 the Barak F16C/Ds of the IAF participated with the German EF2000 in the historical meeting between these nations. In total six aircraft flew to Norvenich in Germany.
