Tarikh is a daily Hindi programme in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons and Incidents. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Operation Wrath of God, a covert operation carried out by the Israeli government in the 1970s. This operation was a retaliation against the Munich massacre, in which eleven members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and ultimately killed by Palestinian terrorists during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.
The operation aimed to track down and eliminate those responsible for the massacre, including members of the Palestinian group Black September. The operation involved Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, and other special forces units. Over the course of several years, a number of targeted killings were carried out, some of which resulted in the deaths of innocent people.
The operation was highly controversial, both within Israel and internationally, with some viewing it as a justified response to a heinous act of terrorism, while others saw it as extrajudicial killings and a violation of international law.
