The Italian naval ship ITS CAIO DUILIO transited through Kiel Canal on 18 May 2023 on her way to the Baltic Sea. Caio Duilio is a destroyer and measures 152.9 metres in length. The ship is marked by hull number D 554 according to NATO classification and was commissioned on 3 April 2009. Caio Duilio has a sister ship named Andrea Doria.

The Kiel Canal is a 98kilometrelong canal located in Northern Germany and links the North Sea with the Baltic Sea. Passing through Kiel Canal saves significant time over the northern route around Denmark. Opened in 1895, it is one of the most frequented artificial waterways in the world.
