Welcome to our Tokyo adventure! In this threeday itinerary, we explore Tokyo's massive and often overwhelming cityscape, exploring a mix of iconic and lesserknown neighbourhoods tailored for budgetconscious travellers like us (although I do plan to share our overall cost which was around 15,000 for three people (three weeks) including airfare, accommodations, food/misc, and all travel costs (trains, bus).

Whether you’re interested in temples, alley izakayas, or hightech shopping, Tokyo offers a dizzying array of experiences to suit any taste.

Our journey in Tokyo began in Sumida City, with an early morning run along the Sumida River. This quieter part of Tokyo gave us a glimpse into the city’s hidden struggles with poverty, shadowed by the famous Tokyo Tower. While our base in Sumida was practical, we found ourselves drawn to the livelier Asakusa across the river, known for the historic Sensoji Temple and its bustling street food scene.

A highlight of our trip was experiencing the electric atmosphere of a Tokyo Giants baseball game in Bunkyo City. The energy at Japanese baseball games is incomparable, marked by fans who passionately sing and dance in support of their team— a vivid contrast to the sports culture we've seen in Toronto.

We then moved to Shimokitazawa, making it our home base for exploring Tokyo’s vibrant cultural tapestry. This neighborhood boasts an eclectic mix of vintage clothing stores, diverse eateries, and a distinctly artistic vibe, offering a refreshing break from the more touristtrodden paths.

From Shimokitazawa, we ventured to Ueno Park in Taito City, a cultural haven perfect for visiting outside the hot summer months, and explored Shibuya, renowned for its iconic crossing but offering much more, including hidden spots for relaxation and games above the city bustle.

Our tour concluded in Akihabara, where a visit to Yodobashi Camera, inspired by a review from Mrwhosetheboss, led me to purchase a pair of innovative Shokz bone conduction earphones—a fitting memento from the tech capital of the world.
