How does diabetes affect the heart? Do people with diabetes need different treatment for heart problems? How can I prevent heart problems if I have diabetes?
Diabetes can affect the heart in several ways. Diabetes can cause narrowing of the blood vessels over time which increases the chance of heart disease or stroke. Diabetes can also cause the heart muscle to become stiffened which leads to heart failure.
