Jennifer Johnston, MA, LPC is a researcher at Yale and clinician in private practice with expertise in emotion regulation difficulties and suicidal behaviors in youths and adults. She completed her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Her clinical focus also includes mood and eating disorders and gender dysphoria. At Yale, in the Mood Disorders Research Program directed by Hilary Blumberg, MD, Ms. Johnston’s research focuses on brain and behavior trajectories underlying development of emotional regulation and mood disorders, suicide ideation and behavior, and psychotherapeutic treatment response. Her work reflects her interest in bridging the gap between research and practice and moving towards personalized treatment approaches. She has presented and taught in the areas of DBT, neurobiology of suicide, and response to treatment, and works with clinicians to integrate research into practice.

The 12th annual Yale NEABPD conference addressed advances in assessment and treatment of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder who struggle with suicidality, as well as resources for providers working with suicidal individuals. The conference addressed assessment and interventions aimed at individuals and families, as well as consumer and family member perspectives.
