OK, what's this!? A glider with TWO jet engines on it?! That's unique! Of course it's the brainchild of Bob Carlton, rocket scientist! Yes Bob strapped (well, bolted) two Czechmade PBS Aerospace TJ100 turbojet engines to his Salto sailplane and off he goes! Enjoy watching him fly it at the 2024 Maxwell Air Force Base Air Show! ✈

ABOUT THE PILOT BOB CARLTON
[Source: https://www.vertigoairshows.com/bobc... ]
Bob Carlton began flying in 1979 at the age of 19. He has since logged over 2000 hours in a wide variety of aircraft and holds a commercial pilot certificate. Bob has flown hang gliders, airplanes, helicopters, and sailplanes from hundreds of sites in the US, Canada, Mexico and Australia. Bob has flown airshows professionally since 1993. He lives in Moriarty, New Mexico with his wife Laurie and their dogs, Ginger & Dewey. He is a member of SSA and ICAS.

Bob is one of the most versatile airshow performers in North America. He began flying airshows in his Salto sailplane, and over the years has continued to add innovative performances such as barnstormin' biplane aerobatics, helicopter sailplane tow, night aerobatics with strobes & pyro and two twin jet sailplanes. The tradition of innovation continues with the recent addition of the FoxJet twin engine jet sailplane, with more power, more speed and more aerobatic capability than any other sailplane on the planet! Why two jet engines? Because if more is better, too much is just right.

Bob is the recipient of the 2017 Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award, 2015 Bill Barber Award for Showmanship and the 2015 Soaring Society of America's Chairman's Award.

Bob Carlton is a retired rocket scientist for a major national laboratory.

ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT JETPOWERED SALTO SAILPLANE
[Source: https://www.vertigoairshows.com/super... ]
There's nothing else like it in the world! With its militarygrade 250 pound thrust jet engines, the Super Salto jet sailplane selflaunches and performs both a classic sailplane aerial ballet and screamin' lowlevel jet aerobatics. No scheduling conflicts and valuable airshow time wasted climbing to altitude. No time wasted hooking up a tow plane or taxiing clear after the performance.

Powered by the PBS TJ100 jet engine, the highly modified Super Salto sailplane is the only sailplane on the airshow circuit capable of performing a lowlevel, jetpowered airshow performance. Utilizing its powerful jet engine, the Super Salto performs a highspeed aerobatic climb to altitude without a tow plane, followed by a spectacular exhibition of graceful sailplane aerobatics, choreographed to classical music, and featuring the worldfamous Vertigo Airshows smoke. When the original altitude is spent, most sailplanes must land.

But not this sailplane! By simply spooling up the jet engine, the graceful sailplane is quickly transformed into a true lowlevel aerobatics machine. Accompanied by an everquickening musical score, the Super Salto cavorts at ground level with loops, rolls, hammerheads, spins and vertical penetration never dreamed of by a sailplane.
