Hello I'm Joan and this book is called All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. It's a truly immersive thriller set in the small town of Monta Clare in Missouri. Patch Macauley and Saint Brown are two young lonely misfit teenagers who are best friends. Young girls have been being taken from Missouri going missing and one day Patch manages to stop such an abduction but the attacker then takes Patch instead of the girl and hides him away in a basement, in a very dark basement for several months. And while he's there he's visited by a young girl named Grace who talks to him about the outside world and just keeps him sane. But once he gets out he never sees her again. The book then follows the next 30 years in the lives of these characters. What I want to say about it is that the premise is terrific but what's extraordinary is the epic scale on which it's written and the fact that it is so beautifully written. I think that Chris Whitaker has taken a really good idea and it's turned into gold.
