Hiking the JMT had been a life dream and then became a life goal after I broke my femur 5 years ago. On the couch, nonweight bearing in Utah and my BFF passed a few days later of breast cancer in California. We had backpacked together for years and our favorite place was Yosemite. Got that Golden ticket, did more to understand, work through and then heal from most all of the leg pain. Trained and felt my friend’s presence on so many winter, mountain hikes while training. And, at 62, felt strong, ready, humble yet confident. So I went for her, I went for me and I went with gratitude and awe of This little blue ball we call home.
