J.S. Bach - Organ Sonata (a tre) in Em BWV 528 - 2: Andante (Synthesized)

The Organ Sonatas represent the culmination of Bach's collections of keyboard works with a partly didactic purpose. Although intended initially for Bach's eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, they also became part of the staple repertoire of his students.

This movement of the Sonata No. 4, the Andante, has a life of its own, in particular it is wellknow to keyboard players because of a beautiful transcription for piano by August Stradal (18601930), a Bohemian virtuoso pianist, arranger, composer, author and music teacher.

It has an unusual, unbaroque thematic motif, so simple yet so distinctive and memorable, that gives it a tonal quality that is closer to 20th century music than to what Bach's contemporaries were creating in 1730.

As usual I started with a couple of differently sourced scores, then wrote my own in MuseScore, MIDIfied it and worked in Reaper to add textures, dynamics and effects.

When it was time to add a video to it, I initially created a video of moon images, because I thought the piece had a lunar quality, but I realised that this tour of the ISS better reflects the character of outofthisworld, reflection and meditation, which I associate to this composition.

The video is originally found here:    • Space Station Fisheye FlyThrough 4K ...   in the NASA channel. I've cut two short sections, but if you like what you see you should watch the entire 18 minutes tour.

Enjoy, please comment and let me know your feedback, good or bad.
