June Hay In January The McCormick #2 Hay Conditioner

Ikon Sees Mr No

This one was a bit difficult to copy. The film was stored poorly & is suffering from vinegar syndrome a.k.a. film base degradation. Kind of like a dead, decaying body, there's no reversing what's happening. There are a couple things I can do to slow it down. That's about it. Not only does it smell like vinegar, the film base is starting to shrink & distort, causing issues with focus & keeping the image straight. Spent most of the afternoon trying many different things to get it to look right. There is no Photoshop here, just manual labor & skill. The sound was a pain in the butt as well. There are actually two copies of the record for this strip. The whole presentation is on one side, giving me four chances to get a good rip. Well, that didn't happen. Had to take parts from both sides of one record to make a full track with only one slight skip toward the end. All in all, it turned out ok, I guess.

Two things I noted in this filmstrip. The camera on the macro bellows (accordion looking thingy) is an Ihagee (eehagay) Exa VX. This is the same camera that you will find on a long lens in the movie "Rear Window". The other thing of note, the hay conditioner representing the competition is a Cunningham made in La Crosse, Wis. That company & their machine were essentially the pioneers of the hay crimping/conditioning machine biz in the early 50's. I found it oddly appropriate to feature their machine in the thumb for my vid.

Hope you enjoyed the video & bit of info. Stay tuned for more....
