This time I tried a pinky and a freshly cooled cockroach. It is still alive, I just tried to slow it down by freezing it for a few moments. Apparently, it worked too well. Normally, she loves chasing them.

Pinkies should be used only sparingly, if at all. Savannah monitor in the wild eat invertebrates (mostly millipedes) almost exclusively, and care should be taken to stay as close to that diet as possible. My goal here was to see if she would show a preference for her 'natural' diet.
