Kathak | Rewaz Performers School – Munmun Ahmed I Live at BCMF 2016

Renowned dance artiste Munmun Ahmed and her troupe captivated the audience with their thrilling Kathak dance performance on the fourth day of the ongoing ‘Bengal Classical Music Festival 2016’ at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital last night. Munmun Ahmed’s troupe included Aishwarya Rahman, Anisha Irin Ahmed, Avantika Afroze, Lava Biswas, Maahima Mehnaz Anam, Maisha Maliha Khan, Masum Hossain, Md. Samim Asraf, Nusrat Fatima Khan, Parimita Rahman, Sharmin Shoheli Khanom Shoma, Sharmishtha Sonalika Sarker, Shishir Bindu Biswas, Soudamini Mazumder Paridhi, Uzma Samad, Zerin Tasfih Reshma, Kazi Anisa Zaman and Roopkotha Chowdhury, among others.

Tanjila Karim Shorolipi provided vocal support, while Moniruzzaman was on flute, Shunondo Mukherjee on Sarod, Oshit Biswas on Esraj, Subir Thakur on Tabla, and Aparajita Mustafa and Wahiduzzaman were on vocal recital. Light arrangement was done by Thandu Rayhan. The troupe started their performance by paying tribute to their master with ‘Bhinno Shoroj’. After that they performed Kathak in Tritaal. In the second part, Mumun Ahmed performed a dance number with the thumri “mori gagariya kaheko fori re shyam”.

Rewaz Performers’ School began its journey in 1994 under the leadership and direction of its founder, Kathak exponent Munmun Ahmed. The school has since been regarded as one of the premier dance institutions in Bangladesh. Munmun Ahmed completed higher studies and training in Kathak under the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. Alongside Kathak, which is the principal form of dance taught at Rewaz Performers’ School, Munmun Ahmed also teaches choreography based on Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore’s music. As the key instructor and choreographer for the school, Munmun Ahmed has trained numerous students over the past twentyseven years, many of whom have established themselves as leading dancers in different parts of the world.

Bengal Foundation has been promoting Bengali music for decades in order to nurture and uphold the musical traditions of Bengal.
