Refueling planes known as KC135 Stratotankers are being phased out at the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County.

The KC135 Stratotankers are a legacy aircraft that allows the refueling of other aircraft in the sky. The fleet is now considered a bit antiquated and may be replaced by the newer KC46.

KC46 aircraft have more cargo capability, can carry patients for aeromedical evacuation and is more fuel efficient compared to the KC135. But the main appeal is that it’s a newer aircraft with more technological advancements.
