American Kevin Weed has worked fulltime since 1986 as accompanist, pianist and organist, for school, church, and community choirs, musical theater, ballet and modern dance, music studios, singers and instrumentalists, concerts and competitions. He occasionally conducts and composes for these groups. Currently, Kevin Weed is choral accompanist and drama department music director/conductor for Newport Harbor High School, accompanist for Corona del Mar High School and Cornelia Connelly High School, organist for St. Boniface Catholic Church. Kevin Weed is also a serious Scottish Highland bagpiper and a member of the Irish band Innisfree. From 19852000 he worked with the Garden Grove (later the Orange County) Symphony as percussionist, pianist, librarian, composer and arranger. For 8 years, he was assistant music director for Opera Pacific's Opera Camp. For 4 years he was trombonist and pianist with BonesWest Jazz Trombone ensemble ; he has performed in tours to China, Italy, Australia, Scotland, England, Ireland Okinawa and New York. « Meditation for flute and organ » (1993) ; « Overture of Praise » (1993, Helen Weed, dir.) ; Concert Piece for Piano and Band » (1996, Rob Henthorn, dir.) ; « String Symphony » (1999) ; « an arrangement of « Ode To Joy » for massed music students (2007, Kevin Weed, dir.) ; an excellent Baroque style « Concerto for harpsichord and String orchestra » (2009, Val Jamora, dir.) ; « Old World Overture » for "Beethoven" orchestra (2009, Kevin Weed, dir.) ; « Concerto for organ and orchestra in D major » (2009, Helen Weed, dir.) ; « Antiphonal Sonata » for 10 Brass and Organ (2009, Helen Weed, dir.) ; « Light Armour » (2010) : Seven songs on the light verse of Richard Armour, for soprano, Judy Boland, Clarinet, Susan Jones, and piano, Sandy Bron. His concise and elegant « Concerto for Highland Bagpipes and Orchestra » (1989 ; created in 2010, Edward Peterson, dir.) connects the traditional Scottish bagpipe with the European symphonic tradition.
