Connected vehicles offer all kinds of benefits to their owners from the ability to remotely start and stop their vehicle to the ability to add overtheair software updates to keep vehicles current with the latest software.

But earlier this year, a team of security researchers discovered an unbelievably massive flaw in Kia's vehicle telematics system that made it possible for them to control the majority of Kia models made in the last decade knowing just the vehicle's license plate.

It's now been patched, but for those who are curious, here's what it was, how it worked and what you can do to ensure you're less likely to be a victim of this kind pro thing in the future.
