This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, stepbystep instructions on how to paint these incredibly adorable feathered friends with bright neutral colors, explosive feathery hair and quarky gestures. Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we'll create a fun composition of these imaginary cartoon characters. You'll learn how to develop a blended background, create faces with personality, and fluff out feathers like there's no tomorrow. MATERIALS:
Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1/2 inch bristle to #14 filbert (large), #8 to #10 round (medium), #0 to #2 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, deep yellow, green oxide, violet purple, fluorescent orange, mars black
Other: white pencil or chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle to #14 filbert brush Paint the background with yellow, green and white
2. #8 to #10 round brush Paint the beak with white, yellow and orange
3. #8 to #10 round brush Paint base coat of the eyes with black
4. #8 to #10 round brush Paint the base coat of the fur/feathers with orange, purple and green
5. #0 to #2 round brush Finish the beak details with black, peach and white
6. #8 to #10 round brush Finish the eyes with white and green
7. #8 to #10 round brush Finish the feathers with yellow, white, peach, dark orange, orange and purple
8. #0 to #2 round brush Sign with black

OATMEAL M&M COOKIE RECIPE Makes 16 COOKIES / Prep time 10 minutes / Cook time 10 minutes
INGREDIENTS
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), very soft
• 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 1/2 cups oldfashioned whole rolled oats (not instant or quick cook)
• 3/4 cup allpurpose flour
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
• 1/4 cup M&M’s

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with a Silpat or spray with cooking spray; set aside.
2. To a large bowl, add the egg, butter, sugars, vanilla, and mix with a spoon aggressively for about 90 seconds, or until smooth and slightly fluffed.
3. Add the oats, flour, baking soda, salt, and stir to combine.
4. Add the M&M’s and stir to combine.
5. Using a 2tablespoon cookie scoop, form mounds and place on prepared baking sheet spaced about 2 inches apart.
6. Bake for about 10 to 13 minutes (short for super soft cookies, longer for more welldone cookies), or until edges have set and tops are just set, even if slightly undercooked, pale, and glossy in the center; don’t overbake. Cookies firm up as they cool.
7. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for about 10 minutes before serving.
