What is a kidney biopsy?

A Kidney biopsy or Renal biopsy is a procedure in which a small piece of kidney tissue is removed and examined under a microscope. This can help doctors diagnose and treat kidney problems like glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, and nephrosclerosis.

There are two types of kidney biopsies: percutaneous biopsy and open biopsy. Percutaneous renal biopsy is the most common type of biopsy.
