James II was the last Catholic Monarch of England and was overthrown by his Protestant daughter and soninlaw William of Orange in the Glorious Revolution. Since then Protestants have ruled England.

Succession goes as: King Charles I Charles II (son 1) James II (son2) Mary (daughter), Anne (sister), George I (cousin).

James II had a son who was brought up as Catholic James Stuart. His line begins the Jacobite Succession Crisis after James II dies. (Jame's reign is known as the Jacbite era).
