The Kinora (a trade name) was invented in France and patented in Britain in 1896. The model shown here, made in the UK c.1900, belonged to Queen Alexandra. Kinoras contain a spool on which many small photographs are mounted in sequence. When set in motion by clockwork the photographs appear rapidly one after the other which gives the impression of a moving film. This demonstration film was shown on 4 April 2013 to The Queen's guests at a reception for the British Film industry.
