Welcome to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park a breathtaking expanse of infinite grassland. The preserve, part of the Everglades headwaters, protects the largest remaining tract of Florida dry prairie, an ecosystem shaped by cycles of flooding and fire. The park offers visitors and campers many experiences and amenities including more than 100 miles of multiuse trails to hike, bike or horseback ride. The trails roam through dry prairie, wetlands and cool, shady hammocks, offering views of the grasslands and its abundant wildlife and birding viewing opportunities. Be sure to watch till the very end to see the many animals and birds we saw here at the park.

The park's remoteness makes Kissimmee Prairie an ideal location for stargazing. Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park was recognized in 2016 as an International Dark Sky Park. This is the first Florida State Park to be recognized with such a prestigious award.

The park offers four different camping choices: The family campground offers a fullservice restroom with hot showers and laundry. The equestrian campground with hot showers has paddocks available. The primitive camping area offers a wilderness camping experience. The campsites are accessible only by foot, bicycle or horseback. The astronomy campground offers a camping experience free from the intrusion of campfires and bright lights.

Park Hours:

The park is open from 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. The entrance is closed daily 15 minutes after sunset. Only registered campers or afterhours pass holders are allowed entry after dark.

Ranger station hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and state holidays.
