KLR650 Adventure 50000 km’s Review

MontysMotoAdventures

Hi KLR owners. Hope you enjoy this review, made on the road as I move from Canada and the USA into Mexico. This bike has been used daily for 8 months now (and is 1 year old, purchased December 2022), through every weather condition imaginable, mainly on backroads, I’d say less than 3,000 km’s of the riding has been on Interstates, with probably the same on unmade roads. The luggage weighs approximately the same as an adult pillion passenger, with 80% of the weight on the rear of the bike, tools and spares being a big chunk of that.

Here’s a summary of most (not all, some oil changes I didn’t record) the maintenance that’s been done whilst traveling, getting access to parts and garages has been an issue throughout the entire trip so far, especially tires of any quality!!!

1000, dealer first service
4300, oil & filter changed, YSS upgrade to front, Wilber’s on the rear
8000, oil & filer changed
18500, full service and shims, new tires, Shinko 705, rear lasted 6k km’s , C$2400
20000, valves rechecked and timing adjusted, C$240
24000, new rear tire and oil & filter change USD$400
32000, new air filter, oil filter and oil C$80
34400 new rear tire Dunlop 755 C$190
39000 new battery C$172, September 27 2023
40000 oil change and oil filter, new crush washer
41409 Thursday 12 October 2023
* New break pads on the front
* New tires front and rear, Mitas E07+
47000 new air filter, oil and oil filter change, spark plug change and chain maintenance…
49000 new sprockets front and rear USD$168 just labour I had the spares on the bike luckily
53000 full service including shims, fork rebuild and new tires Mitas E07+, USD$2000

The plan is to get the top end rebuilt, timing chain and spring replaced in Panama, before heading into South America.

To answer the question would I buy this bike again? Yes.

I’m sure there’s going to be lots of questions and comments so post away and please don’t forget to subscribe, switch on notifications and give me a thumbs up.

Cheers, Monty.
