Kubu Island - Another BOTSWANA Adventure | Episode 2

Our Life In Africa

We started off our adventure at Limpopo River Lodge, which laid the foundation for a truly unforgettable trip in the making. Leaving a calm and relaxed campsite behind, we immediately embarked on some notsocalm roads.
We will always take the road less traveled, and this was one of those where a lot of complaining turned into lasting memories and stories around the campfire.
We then reached Limpopo Lipadi which is also a wilderness reserve in the Tuli Block. It is a hidden gem where we will surely spend some time in the future. https://limpopolipadi.org/'>https://limpopolipadi.org/

Often overlooked is the restaurant area at Khama. Unfortunately, the pool area is not well kept, but the food is worth it after a long day drive

We have visited Khama a few times already. It is one of the best one or twonight stopovers in the area.
Wildlife is abundant at Khama Rhino Sanctuary, especially on the pans.
This Was September 2023 and the dust in the air over the Makgadikgadi region made the visibility very difficult.
After all the powderlike dust enroute to the Kubu Island we finally reached the pans.
The meaning of Lekhubu is a ridge or an outcrop.
Lekhubu island is located on the largest pan in Botswana, Sua Pan, which is part of the Makgadikgadi region. The granite rock island forms a mesmerizing sight as the island is surrounded by large open pans and nothing to be seen…. as far as the eye can see
The birdlife wanted every drop of water they could find as the area was extremely dry. This kept us busy the whole of the morning as the sunrise was again spoilt by lowhanging clouds in the air.
The ablutions or long drop facilities were unusable. We did come across a new area being built just outside of the entrance to Kubu Island. According to the builders, the plan is to move the campsites away from the island itself
Always remember to take your rubbish with you away from the campsites and drop it at the entrance as requested by the staff.
We continued on the dusty tracks towards Ntwetwe pan where it got even more dusty – powderlike dust that was very unforgiving.
The corrugated slowgoing roads seemed neverending just like the dust
Ntwetwe pan is also very large and seems more open. We also found some wildlife here.
We stayed at Planet Baobab after Kubu Island. The campsites at Planet Baobab are not spaced far apart, but it is big enough for a larger setup. There are also a few overlanding sites that are much larger than the standard sites. This is normally reserved for larger groups. The washup and ablution facilities are wellkept and cleaned regularly

We continued towards Maun. There were lots of Elephants along the road. The most that we have ever seen on this stretch of road between Planet Baobab and Maun
In Maun, we first stopped at Delta Meat Deli. Here you can find some proper meat and stock up with other supplies needed on your trip.
We stayed at Sitatunga once again. This will always be our goto spot in Maun as it is wellmaintained and outside of the busy and noisy town. The Tin Cup and swimming area is also a treat after a few days in the dusty bush. We also took advantage and gave the Cruiser and Companion a proper wash
