Kyoto is serious about those harassing geisha, fines of ¥10,000 are real, but where exactly?
Note: I asked the Kyoto Tourism Office inside Kyoto Station for maps / info on the places where I should not take photos or enter. After waiting for a minute, the very nice lady behind the window had no info, could not say where on the map beyond follow the signs.
There are signs on streets that are not officially banning photos. One end of the street has a sign and the other end doesn't so those entering from the other side don't know they're on a street with a sign! Again, the only place right now is one side alley, not the whole area. The signs need to say the road that's banned and a map is needed to clarify where, the city tourism office should know what's off limits to help tourists who want to follow local rules. International tourists do not waytch Japanese domestic news so we don't know the press releases. Someone needs to offer info on this. Bottom line: COMMON SENSE: see a geisha / maiko, put the camera away, give her respect and let her get to work enjoy seeing a shooting star without your camera. It's a spcial moment that doesn't need a camera. #kyoto #gion
