Lalitha was the first beautiful heroine of Malayalam cinema.She was the eldest of the very famous trio artists 'Travancore Sisters' who were famed as dancers and film actors.All the three sisters were well trained in classical art forms,Kerala nadanam dance and Kathakali.They were born at Poojappura in Trivandrum to Thankappan Pillai and Saraswathi Amma.Lalitha was born in the year 1930 and joined films first.She appeared in Tamil,Malayalam,Telugu,Kannada and Hindi films.Travancore Sisters had a dance troupe of their own and their relatives actress Ambika Sukumaran and actress Sukumari were also members of that troupe which conducted dance programs all over India and abroad.Lalitha debuted in a Tamil film in the year 1947 and continued to act in Tamil in the following years.She acted in Telugu film in 1949.Lalitha and Padmini appeared as dancers in several films during this period.She acted in the lead role of the film 'Oru Iravu' in 1951.She was the heroine opposite Thikkurissi in the Malayalam film 'Amma' in the year 1952.She handled an important role in the film 'Anbu'.Lalitha was the heroine of the Tamil films 'Kanchana,Ponni and Kanavu'.K.R.Rama Swamy and Lalitha were the lead actors of 1955 film 'Menaka'.Shivaji Ganesan,Padmini and Lalitha were the lead actors of the Tamil film 'Kaveri'.She was the heroine of Shivaji Ganesan film 'Ulakam Palavidham' in the year 1955/Lalitha,Padmini and MGR were the lead actors of the 1957 film 'Raja Rajan'.Lalitha and Ragini acted in the film 'Senthamarai' in which the lead actors were Shivaji Ganesan and Padmini.
Lalitha acted in the Malayalam film 'Vellinakshatram' in the year 1949.Miss Kumari was the heroine of this film.Lalitha acted in the film 'Prasanna' also.She was the heroine of the Malayalam film 'Ponkathir' in the year 53 in which the lead actor was Prem Nazir.Llitha also acted in the Malayalam films 'Snehaseema,chandrika,Marumagal,Thookku thookki,Minnal Padayali' etc.
Lalitha expired in the year 1982 at the age of 52.
