resqme® Glass Survey

The differences between tempered and laminated glass.

Tempered glass is often used for the side windows of vehicles. If it breaks, it shatters into small chunks rather than shards, these are less likely to cause injury or damage than the shards of nontempered glass. During an emergency, once the window fractures, you can use pressure to get rid of the rest. An elbow to the window will easily remove any glass left in the frame of the window.

Laminated glass is actually made of two or more panes of glass that are joined together by a thin layer of plastic. Because laminated glass holds up to impact better than other types of glass, it is what is used in modern windshields. The plastic layer gives the glass structural integrity and keeps it from shattering apart like tempered glass might. Laminated glass also keeps the car quieter, is more fuelefficient, protects against breakins, and can help save a life when a car rolls by keeping people inside the vehicle. However, laminated glass may make it more difficult to break into the vehicle in the event of an accident.
