Lamu is one of the longest established Swahili settlements in east Africa that remains today and has been continually inhabited for more than seven hundred years. The island has also built a reputation as a hideaway for the wealthy, and has become very popular with tourists who want to experience the traditional Swahili culture and luxurious villas that it offers.

We've visited Lamu several times before, but this time we had the opportunity to stay on neighbouring Manda island which offers a completely different experience than the typical "Lamu experience".

Sunsets, beachfront properties, tranquility and wildlife are all things that Manda island offers and we were surprised to see how contrasting it is from the nearby Lamu island, and Syngue Sabour cottage is like no other property we've ever stayed!
