June 10, 2022. An American Airlines Airbus A321 operating Flight 1 from New York to Los Angeles is on approach to the airport when the pilots report a problem: they’ve selected their landing gear lever to down, but the gear hasn’t moved. The crew declare PANPAN and discontinue their approach. They work through the checklist to manually extend the gear via gravity – will the gear lower, or will the pilots make a belly landing at one of the world’s busiest airports? Watch and listen as the pilots and air traffic control coordinate to get the aircraft back on the ground safely.
