In late April 1945, just one week before the end of the war in Europe, Allied forces launched a full amphibious invasion of a Germandefended island off the French Atlantic coast. In a sort of miniDDay, 6,000 French troops and tanks took on 2,000 heavily dugin Germans in Europe's last invasion.
