Layering is vital when making realistic colour pencil drawings wether you have 3 pencils, or 300! In fact, the less colours you have, the more important layering becomes as chances are you don't have a perfect colour match to the reference and you need to use layers to adjust.
I drew this rose using only colours from the FaberCastell Polychromos set of 12, and although I didn't have the exact pinks and greens I needed, with layering I can create pretty much any colour needed for the drawing.
If you'd like to draw this rose with me in realtime, it's part of my beginner friendly series over on Patreon and great for anyone looking to get into colour pencil art.
