Do you know WHEN to use the present perfect tense in English?
In this English lesson we are going to learn about the different situations we need to use the present perfect tense.

We start put quickly looking at our summary chart about the word order of affirmative sentences, negative sentences and questions in the present perfect tense.
The first use is for Unspecified Time and Life experiences. We start by comparing the following sentences in the perfect tense vs. past tense:
I have been to Spain. I went to Spain in 2019.
Then we look at Unfinished Time Periods – Unfinished Situations using expressions like today, this week, this month.
We explain the difference between these two sentences:
Yes, I have seen Jack at work this morning.
Yes, I saw Jack at work this morning.

The next use is a finished event connected to the present. We show the connection between the past and now.
Next we show how the present perfect tense is used to Express Completion or Achievement.
Another common use is the Duration of Something using For or Since.
We also talk about the present perfect continuous tense when using FOR.
Next is the Repetition of Something – Habitual Actions where we also talk about expressions such as This is the first time … the second time.
