I kicked a stone into the road as I walked home, feeling really low. At age 17, I felt like a failure.

I wasn't good at anything. I knew I could cook, but nobody thought cooking was cool unless you were on TV, and that wasn't going to happen to me. As I was about to reach home, I thought about food. My home is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Liverpool, so food is always on my mind. Sometimes, I cook there on weekends for my dad.
