Left AIC Pattern Or Health Anxiety? DO THIS Before Watching More Videos!

Over the last decade working with hundreds of people in chronic pain and doing thousands of hours of research, training, and selfinquiry, I have come to the conclusion that most people in chronic pain have some level of health anxiety.

In fact, studies suggest that ~ %50 of people that present to pain clinics have severe health anxiety.

Health anxietyrelated issues fall into different buckets, with one being frank health anxiety (hypochondriasis), and another being somatic symptom disorder.

In both cases, the fear of uncertainty that is associated with anxiety causes people to believe either that they are seriously ill, will become seriously ill, or to focus on their symptoms to a degree that is out of proportion with symptom severity.

This reaction of constant thinking about their symptoms and health amplifies any negative sensations and confirms the belief that something is wrong.

This vicious cycle repeats itself.

Some never manage to break it.

It took me 10+ years and a doctoral degree in PT.

People with health related anxiety are far more likely to believe they have an illness or condition that the average person.

For many folks, articles and videos on the internet that talk about movementrelated concepts are unhelpful and provoke anxiety because they describe problems that people with health anxiety issues are more likely to think that they have.

I was in this boat and it sucks.

Often times, initially things feel better after doing an activity or feeling like someone is accurately describing the problem you have that no doctor could validate with testing and medical diagnoses or treatment.

Instead of facing the possibility that many of the symptoms we are experiencing are being made worse by overthinking and framing our body as a problem, someone with health anxiety is more likely to search far and wide for solutions that appeal to their belief that something is wrong with them.

The problem is that viewing the body as something that needs to be fixed or viewing the patterns that the body naturally moves in as being "wrong" or "harmful" only makes us more fearful and less likely to move without pain or limitation.

The best thing you can do is to STOP WATCHING THESE VIDEOS.

Only resume watching these once you have gone through some training in mindfulness or CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), which will help to expose the influence of your underlying thoughts and help you to approach movement from a healthier and more balanced mindset.

Learning to be grateful for and to appreciate your body despite unpleasant sensations, learning to accept that pain is part of life, and learning to stop avoiding facing the influence of your mind will help set you free.
