Foot of Leith Walk to Picardy Place Southbound / Uphill . Filmed Friday 13th September 2024 from 10:25am. This video is shot in realtime, but you can use Youtube's speed controls to watch the route back faster if desired.

You can view this same route heading Northbound / Downhill here:

From the end of this video, the route links to the City Centre West to East Link:    • City Centre West to East Link  CCWEL...

From the starting point of this video, new cycle lanes are about to be built from Foot of the Walk along Great Junction Street, down Henderson Street, Sandport Place and Dock Street as part of CEC's 'Foot of the Walk to Ocean Terminal' route. The last section from Dock Street to Ocean Terminal is part of a different project, Leith Connections Phase 3, so the upcoming construction stops at Commercial St. See    • Foot of Leith Walk to Dock Street  N...   and    • Missing Links  Dock St to Ocean Term...

Filming / Route Issues:
1:40 in I attempt to make a joke with the guys moving equipment on the bike lane that they're having to do so because of 'bloody cyclists' blocking the pavement. It's irony, Alanis. The joke did not land and I think the bikists thought I was being grumpy at them :)
4:15 in there's a good example of how not to operate a van at a red light;
6:10 in I tire of waiting for a green cycle signal and continue across the road. As much as I want to document these routes with the expected wait times at signals, most other riders will generally cross when safe to do so rather than waiting for a green;
10:08 in after crossing Leith St I miss that the protected cycle lane link across onto the Picardy Place gyratory sweeps off to the right, being as it is set in the same stone as the paving with no colour indication or signage to signpost me to the right place. As such, I end up waiting to join the gyratory traffic and end up using the bus stop and the mouth of Cathedral Lane to finally link back to    • City Centre West to East Link  CCWEL...   where what I would have ideally done would be to sweep right, use another signalised crossing onto the southwestern face of the gyratory island protected cycle lanes, then crossed directly onto CCWEL.
