我現在在台灣生活了將近20年食用糖的能力大大下降了。這可能有助於我和妻子一起慢慢變老看著我們的孫子和曾孫但我也只是個普通人。回到美國一眼看到美味的楓糖圈甜甜圈、一盤藍莓派配香草冰淇淋或是聞到熱蘋果派的香味我可能會屈服於甜蜜的誘惑。這更像是走進過去 每一口都是我生命中一段簡單而甜蜜時光的一步。

現在作為一個在台灣生活的美國七個女兒的父親我認為讓我的女兒們稍微品嘗一下她們的美國傳統是很重要的。也許她們會更好地理解是什麼塑造了今天的我以及在美國長大是什麼樣子即使只有一刻鐘。雖然我們在日常生活中不吃太多甜食但我們記住了經文——“所以你們或吃或喝無論做什麼都要為神的榮耀而做”以及“不是入口的不能污穢人是出口的污穢人”。願我們對神的每日供應心存感激並歡樂地記得所有美好的事物都來自天上。

在今天的影片中我們要做三種不同風味的美式巧克力片餅乾。在家裡試試看這並不難

以下是食譜

原味巧克力片餅乾可製作12個

½ 杯砂糖100克
¾ 杯棕糖165克壓實
1 茶匙鹽
½ 杯無鹽牛油115克融化
1個大蛋
1 茶匙香草精1 茶匙
1¼ 杯中筋麵粉155克
½ 茶匙小蘇打粉
4 盎司半甜巧克力片110克

As an American, I grew up eating a lot of sweets candy, cake, cookies, and icecream. Please don’t be deceived by my shredded core, bulging muscles, and incredible physique (Joking American sarcasm), sugar was a probably the biggest section on my food pyramid (also joking… but maybe not…).

Now having lived in Taiwan for the greater part of the last 20 years, my ability to eat large amounts of sugar has declined greatly. This might be helpful in my attempt to grow old with my wife and see our grandkids and great grandkids! Still, I am only human. A trip back to the United States and a glimpse of a delectable maple bar donut, a plate of blueberry cobbler and vanilla icecream, or the smell of warm apple pie, and I might give in to the sweet temptation. It’s more like a stroll into the past each bite a step into a sweet and simple season of my life.

Now, as an American father of seven daughters, living in Taiwan, I think it’s important to let my girls get a small taste of their American heritage. Maybe they’ll gain a better understand of what made me the person I am today, and what it would be like to grow up in America, if only for a moment. Although we don’t eat many sweets in our daily life, we remember the passages “whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” and “it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” May we be grateful to God for our daily sustenance, and joyfully remember that all good things come from Heaven above.

In today’s video we are making three different flavors of Americanstyle chocolate chip cookies. Feel free to try making them at home, it’s not too hard!

Here are the recipes:

Original Chocolate Chip Cookies (Makes 12):
½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
¾ cup brown sugar (165 g), packed
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter (115 g), melted
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (1 teaspoon)
1 ¼ cups allpurpose flour (155 g)
½ teaspoon baking soda
4 oz semisweet chocolate chips (110 g)

Instructions: Mix sugars, salt, and butter together. Whisk in egg and vanilla. Mix flour and baking soda in separate bowl. Then add flour to wet ingredients bowl, folding ingredients into each other (don't over stir). Pour in chocolate chips, and fold into the dough until evenly distributed throughout. Chill in refrigerator (or you might get flat cookies like ours!). Cover baking tray with parchment paper. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Shape and put cookie dough on tray. For circle shape, keep 10 cm space between cookies and tray sides. Bake for 1215 minutes. Carefully remove, and cool before eating. We recommend a big glass of cold milk to counterbalance the sweetness. Enjoy!

M&M Cookies: Same as Original flavor, but replace chocolate chips with M&M's

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies (Allergy Warning: Recipe Includes Nuts)
1 ½ cups allpurpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon table salt
1 ½ cups packed dark brown sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 large eggs
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Semisweet or Dark Chocolate chips (200 grams)
