Lake Chala is located South East of Kilimanjaro (52 km from Moshi), and is 95M deep, making it deeper than Lake Victoria. It was believed to have been developed as a Caldera of the first volcanic eruption that prevailed 250,000 years ago. However, recent investigation shows that there is a magma chamber that collapsed under Lake Chala, creating a space for crater lake.
