Each September, the Hayes family packs up and heads to the mountains. For how long? Well, that depends on how good the elk hunting is. This year is different though because the youngest, Fen has a public land rifle elk hunt that opens after the archery elk season. That means that, even if Clay and Liz tag out during the archery season, we won't break camp until Fen has a chance to hunt in October. We live in a wall tent, cook sourdough bread in a Dutch oven, sleep on cots, hunt, hike, and fish. Liz and the boys even continue homeschool activities at elk camp. For the fall elk bow hunting season we live life in the mountains.
