Today we archive the very first Life is Strange game that came out which quickly grew to be a cult classic. This is also my favorite in the series and resonates with me personally on multiple levels.
Life is Strange is an adventure game that can be compared to Telltale games when it comes to gameplay where you interact with the enviroment and characters while choosing various dialogue options. You play as Max Caulfield who is a highschool student and has a passion for photography.
During an incident Max discovers that she has superpowers where she can rewind time to alter different outcomes of certain situations. Thereby you as the player have to figure out how to alter things in order to get the best result.
The huge strength of this game is how it has something that will probably resonate or connect with anyone who plays this. Later Life is Strange games are still great, but they often went for a specific direction whereas Life is Strange 1 is rather broad with its highschool student setting.
But therefore it tackles all the issues, problems but also great things about our times as a student. It deals with love, bullying, the loss of a parent, hanging out with friends after school and even passion for the artistic if that's your thing.
See, my actual name is Max and so I even clicked with the main character on a first name basis. And I actually studied film in college, so even though that is not the same as photography there was still enough overlay to where I felt really connected to Max from the game. And we all had to deal with jerks or rich snobs during our highschool days, but I also have so many fond memories of hanging out with friends after school and all that is also represented here. I have friends who have lost a parent to a disease or accident and that topic also gets treated with respect and even highschool crushes of course are revealed as well.
And to top it all off there is an awesome murder mystery playing on the background and some really, really great plot twists and turns that will have your jaw drop.
Probably the worst part about the game are some of the puzzles that take way too long or can be a bit confusing with the infamous bottle search in the junkyard or the photo examination in Chloe's room. The music is amazing too and feels like a time capsule for the younger generation back then. Overall I just really love this game and think its the best in the entire series and with the return of Max Caulfield in the upcoming Life is Strange game I am ready for more adventures!
