Beta Oxidation vs. Lipolysis
Lipolysis: Is the breakdown of a triglyceride (Splitting the glycerol backbone from the fatty acid chains)
Beta Oxidation: The Breakdown of Free Fatty Acid Chains into Acetyl CoA
These processes work together to breakdown fat from adipose or from food.
Bonus fun facts:
Lipase is an enzyme produced in the pancreas that speeds up lipolysis
The 3 carbon glycerol from lipolysis can go through a process called gluconeogenesis (making new glucose)
Acetyl CoA (2 carbon molecule) can go to the mitochondria and enter the Krebs Cycle to produce ATP
